The Secret Circle - yay or nay? (rambling)

Hello everyone!

All the buzz around CW's upcoming TV show, The Secret Circle, makes me wonder what do you guys think about all this? Are you excited or just rolling your eyes at yet another show based upon LJ Smith's books? Do you think it's going to be better or just living in the shadow of The Vampire Diaries? Or you just don't care about any of the TV shows? Let's discuss! :))

But first, let's recap:

The story:

Cassie Blake was a happy, normal teenage girl - until her mother Amelia dies in what appears to be a tragic accidental fire. Orphaned and deeply saddened, Cassie moves in with her warm and loving grandmother Jane in the beautiful small town of Chance Harbor, Washington - the town her mother left so many years before - where the residents seem to know more about Cassie than she does about herself. As Cassie gets to know her high school classmates, including sweet-natured Diana and her handsome boyfriend Adam, brooding loner Nick, mean-girl Faye and her sidekick Melissa, strange and frightening things begin to happen. When her new friends explain that they are all descended from powerful witches, and they've been waiting for Cassie to join them and complete a new generation of the Secret Circle, Cassie refuses to believe them - until Adam shows her how to unlock her incredible magical powers. But it's not until Cassie discovers a message from her mother in an old leather-bound book of spells hidden in her mother's childhood bedroom, that she understands her true and dangerous destiny. What Cassie and the others don't yet know is that darker powers are at play, powers that might be linked to the adults in the town, including Diana's father and Faye's mother - and that Cassie's mother's death might not have been an accident.

The cast:

-The series stars:Britt Robertson as Cassie Blake, Thomas Dekker as Adam Conant, Gale Harold as Charles Meade, Phoebe Tonkin as Faye Chamberlain, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Melissa, Shelly Henning as Diana Meade, Louis Hunter as Nick, Ashley Crow as Jane Blake and Natasha Henstridge as Dawn Chamberlain.
- Based upon the book series by L.J. Smith (author of "The Vampire Diaries" book series)
- Executive producers Kevin Williamson ("The Vampire Diaries," "Scream," "Dawson's Creek"), Andrew Miller ("Imaginary Bitches"), Leslie Morgenstein ("The Vampire Diaries," "Gossip Girl") and Gina Girolamo.

As for me... Well, I'm really excited about it! The Vampire Diaries (the book series) was my least favorite from all LJ Smith's books and yet, I LOVE the show! (Damon!*swoon* Need I say more?!) But I really enjoyed reading The Secret Circle, so I can't wait to see what they make of it! There are going to be similarities between the two, of course (well, they both have CW's, LJ Smith's and Williamson's signature) but I trust them to do a good job (as long as they don't overdo the teen drama). And I'm not very happy about the actors starring the main characters, but maybe they'll win me over with magnificent acting! LOL

Ok, your turn to ramble. :)) Feel free to gossip or complain or to tell me who's your favorite actor or to squee in delight or whatever! If you haven't been raptured by zombies yet, that is. ;)

  1. Ooh I'm looking forward to this. I hadn't actually seen any promo's for this before. And yes that water scene was very 'Bonnie and Jeremy' hehe.

Can't wait to see more of Phoebe Tonkin, I'd liked her back when she was on H20: Just Add Water.

  2. I actually didn't read this series. Well that and all the Night World books...this one didn't really grab my attention at the time. Might read them though if I ever find the time...

After that ramble ;) I still plan on watching this show. Giving it a shot at least. I like L.J.'s Vampire Diaries a lot, both show and book and totally looooved her The Forbidden Game trilogy--wish they did something with that! That would be wicked awesome! But yeah, because I like L.J. I'll give this show a try as well!

  3. @Brett Yup, I was thinking about that Bonnie scene too.:)) And I also can't wait to see more of Phoebe. Besides, Faye is a super cool character!*evil laugh*

@Jessica I read all LJ Smith's series and my fav are The Dark Visions and Night World. I really recommend them, they are awesome!!! I think you'll like Gabriel (Dark Visions). Also, I agree, a show after the Forbidden Game would be very interesting! But I think it would request way too much work and special effects!:))

Thank You so much for sharing this. I love the author and the books. I could honestly read them a million times. They are that good. I have read the entire series and am so excited that the tv show is coming out. I can't thank you enough for sharing it or otherwise I wouldn't have known about it.

  5. Hmm...I think I'll give the Secret Circle a try. I didn't like the Vampire Diaries books at all, but I enjoy the series. I've read one of the Secret Circle books, and while I thought it was better than the Vampire Diaries, I still wasn't all that impressed. But judging from the Vampire Diaries, it has the potential to be better as a television series!
