Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
*Thanks Bewitched Bookworms for the lovely button!;)
So here's what I'm waiting on this week:
Pub: November 15th 2011 by Margaret K. McElderry
Goodreads Blurb:
Words are the most dangerous weapon of all...
In the violent country of Ludania, the classes are strictly divided by the language they speak. The smallest transgression, like looking a member of a higher class in the eye while they are speaking their native tongue, results in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina has always been able to understand the languages of all classes, and she’s spent her life trying to hide her secret. The only place she can really be free is the drug-fueled underground clubs where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. It's there that she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy named Max who speaks a language she's never heard before . . . and her secret is almost exposed.
Charlie is intensely attracted to Max, even though she can’t be sure where his real loyalties lie. As the emergency drills give way to real crisis and the violence escalates, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country’s only chance for freedom from the terrible power of a deadly regime.
I know there's a long wait for it (November!*sob*), but I've been curious about this book ever since I heard about it and reading Carrie Ryan's blurb today made me even more
Here's what she says:
“Kimberly Derting’s remarkably original and deliciously romantic dystopian, The Pledge, unfolds at a breakneck pace. I held my breath until the very last page and am already desperate for more!” (I snatched this from Kim's blog :D) Cool, huh?;)
Now to sum it up: Dystopian novel? Check!✓ Very interesting, original story? Check!✓ Pretty cover? Check!✓ Awesome author? Check!✓ Beautiful, captivating writing style? (this based upon Kim's previous works) Check!✓Awesome theme to humor the linguistics and foreign languages specialist in me?! Check!✓ Heart-melting love story? Check!✓ Different, cool heroine? Check!✓ Beautiful and mysterious boy?✓Check! No love-triangles (as far as I as know at the moment) Check!✓ Hmmm... I could go on and on, but I'm already convinced! I want to read this ASAP!♥
What book are you guys looking forward to this week?
xoxo

Jessica@a GREAT read
I went through all those checks too :P this sounds great, I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a few different people talking about this book now and Kimberly Derting in general, so this totally makes me want to add this one to my TBR immediately. The cover of it is just dark, gothic, and gorgeous and I would buy it for that reason alone. But, the mention of dystopia, and you've got me drawing hearts around this. Fantastic, WoW! ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
