I'm back! + Review Angelfire (Courtney Allison Moulton)

Hey Guys!

Blurb: (Goodreads)

This debut, the first novel in a trilogy, is achingly romantic, terrifying, and filled with blistering action.

When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers - monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell - she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between archangels and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of wielding swords of angelfire to fight the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie's powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her - an assassin who has already killed her once.

While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting duties, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to ignite the End of Days and to destroy Ellie's soul, ending her rebirth cycle forever. Now, she must face an army of Bastian's most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives - including truths that may be too frightening to remember.

I knew I was going to like this book, it sounded really intriguing and somehow different, but I never expected that I’ d enjoy it so much! There is a lot of action in it, the world is so vivid and enthralling described, and the relationship between the main characters so unique, strong and beautiful, that I just couldn’ t put it down!

In the beginning, Ellie seems to be just a normal high school girl with normal teenage problems – well, except the nightmares. But I didn’ t have a change to get bored with her rich-(and maybe a bit spoiled)-girl life, because real bad things started to happen and her nightmares started to come true. And also Will – her immortal Guardian - came into the picture; he awakened her special powers and told her she was an ancient soul reincarnated in human body and that she had superhuman strength and abilities - and that they had to fight in the real war between good and evil. Although she had a sense of déjà-vu when she met him and sometimes the nightmares seemed too real to be just dreams, she still had a hard time accepting everything she had to face (and could you blame her? One day you worry about having too many people coming to your party, and the other about having extraordinary powers and having to fight alongside a gorgeous warrior to save the world). But once she realized that everything was true and she also still had a lot of things to remember about herself, her previous lives and about Will, she started to spend more time with him and also to train. There are a lot of fight scenes that prove just what a strong, and kick-ass heroine she is and how much Will cared about her and how devoted he was and that he would do about anything to protect her. She also can remember bits and pieces about her past and about being with Will and they relationship develops beautifully.

I admired her, because although she had to fight horrible monsters and to deal with terrible enemies, she still cared about her friends and family and tried to balance her high school girl life with her warrior life. She never backed down from her responsibilities, no matter how much they scared her.

Close to the end, there were some new, intriguing characters and some totally unpredictable developments that left me counting the days until the release of the next book.

Considering that she is very young and this is her debut novel, Courtney Allison Moulton is a really good writer who can easily keep you entertained with her world, story and characters. She found an amazing way to blend in the high school life with action, suspense, drama, love, fondness, humor and mythology elements, everything to complete a fabulous young adult novel. I gave this book 4 stars, and not 5, because I didn't get into the story right away and because I found myself rolling my eyes in frustration a few times throughout the book -mostly at Ellie's questioning and Will's selfless, "everything you wish" attitude. But all in all, a great read that I totally recommend.

P.S. I wrote this yesterday, but  just when I wanted to post it, my internet connection died. So here it is....
P.P.S. I still want to buy this book. If not to re-read it or to put it on my bookshelf, at least as a motivational reminder. People my age write books and I'm struggling with some stupid essay. Yay me!:))

Teaser Tuesdays #2

Hey guys!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page.
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I just finished reading Pale Demon by Kim Harrison (my most anticipated book of the year) and I'm a little shaken.:)) But I'm going to read Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton next, which also seems a very promising book. It's part o my 2011 challenges and I've read good things about it around the blogosphere so I can't wait to read it! Angelfire will be released on February 15th, so you still have 2 weeks to pre-order it. ;) Here are my teasers:
"Enough of this", he growled, leaning closer to me. "You need to accept what happened last night and what you are, no matter how much you don't want to. Pretending that it was just a dream or that I'm insane isn't going to help you. It'll only make things worse." (39/291*)
"What are you doing?" I asked, my eyes wide. His fingers traced the curve of my shoulder softly, as his gaze fell. I gasped sharply. If he tried to kiss me, I'd slap the crap out of him. Bond or no bond. He slipped my purse off my shoulder and tossed it."You won't need this." He turned and stepped away." (70/291*)
I picked them at random, I don't want to spoil the fun. :D
