Witch Born by Amber Argyle: Guest Post & Giveaway

Hi guys!

To celebrate the release of Witch Born, the second book in the Witch Song series by Amber Argyle, I invited Amber on the blog today to tell us a bit more about the world building in her amazing books. That's a big part of the story, so I'm really happy to read more about it. I loved, loved, LOVED Witch Born and I'm super excited about the sequel! Also, Amber graciously offered some signed swag to give away on the blog, so stay tuned: ;)

The world in the Witch Song books:

I wanted to use America's resonance with the Salem Witch Trials, so I borrowed many of the elements from that time period--mainly muskets, Spanish galleon sailing ships, clothing, etc. Nefalie (Brusenna's home country) is based off New England, with it's heavily forested rolling hills. The other country, Tarten, has dome shaped mountains with cities built atop them and jungles all around them--mostly is based off an amalgamation of South American landscapes, including Machu Picchu and Columbia.

I wanted to twist dark, evil Witches into something pure and beautiful. So instead of chanting, my Witches sing-their songs to control the elements. A simple song, and they can take a seed to a plant they can then control to beat back an army. A Witches power increases in numbers, so a group of Witches can control the season, call in a storm, fight with the very elements.
I also had a lot of fun researching ships and sea battles. And seals. And trees.

Brusenna also has a Guardian, Joshen, who has sworn to protect her. But with danger coming from within and without Haven's protective wall, can he keep her alive long enough to save them all?

Happy reading!

Thank you so much, Amber!

I don't know how many of you read Witch Song, but I think the world is absolutely fascinating! And I always LOVED the idea of elemental magic - controlling the seasons, the weather, the nature, fighting with the elements... Awesomeness! You know I love books about witches, but Witch Song is definitely one of my favorites! Anyway, you can read more about that in my reviews.

About the book:

Witch Born (Witch Song #2)
by Amber Argyle
Release date: September 5th 2012
by Starling Publishing
Format: e-Book, Paperback, 330 pages

Goodreads:

Brusenna thought it was finished.

She defeated the Dark Witch, saving the Haven Witches from imprisonment and death. She found love and a place to belong.

She was wrong.

Haven is not the sanctuary it appears to be. Even love is in danger of slipping away like water through cupped hands.

Some things can't be saved.

A new threat merges with the old as the Witches’ dark history begins to catch up with them. Only Brusenna knows the extent of the danger and how to stop it, though doing so might cost her everything.

Including her life.

Will Brusenna be required to make the ultimate sacrifice?

About the author:

Amber Argyle grew up with three brothers on a cattle ranch in the Rocky Mountains. She spent hours riding horses, roaming the mountains, and playing in her family's creepy barn. This environment fueled her imagination for writing her debut novel.

She has worked as a short order cook, janitor, and staff member in a mental institution; all of which has given her great insight into the human condition and has made for some unique characters.

She received her bachelor's degree in English and Physical Education from Utah State University.

She currently resides in Utah with her husband and three small children.
