Synopsis:

Once upon a time, Monroe Sinclair was Brodan Adair’s best friend, but now he’s a stranger and one of Hollywood’s leading men…

It took Monroe Sinclair eighteen years to return home to Ardnoch after a fateful night that devastated her friendship with Brodan Adair. She fled her unrequited love for him, as well as her difficult family life, and tried not to look behind her. Only a daughter’s guilt could lure her back to the Highlands and the assumption that Brodan Adair rarely ever sets foot in their hometown. She can handle seeing the rest of the Adairs so long as she can avoid her ex-best friend and the only man she’s ever loved.

Nothing is more important to Brodan than family, and only his demons have the power to keep him from them. For years, acting was something he was lucky enough to be good at, yet it wasn’t his priority—Ardnoch and his siblings were. But when a ghost from his past returned out of the blue, Brodan tried to outrun its haunting, taking him further and further from home. When exhaustion finally forces him back to the family fold, the last thing he wants is to encounter another ghost. But that’s exactly what Monroe Sinclair has been to him.

When a promise to his nephew obliges Brodan to work with Monroe, it forces them to face their past. The explosive connection that has always existed between them resurrects truths long buried. Yet, just when they might be on the brink of a second chance, the ghost from Brodan’s past finally catches up to him and threatens not just their happiness, but their very lives.

My thoughts:

Sigh. Every time I read one of Samantha's books I have a hard time writing a review. For some inexplicable reason, I feel totally biased and incapable of giving a truly objective opinion. I don't know what is about her writing but it always resonates very deeply with me. Her books have been a comfort read for years and every time I have to gift a book to one of my non-reader friends, her books always come to mind first. (Probably why I can't locate my original copy of On Dublin Street ...).

It's the realness, the emotion, the maturity, strength of the characters and their stories, the banter, the passion, the tropes ... it's all there. It pulls you in, even when or if you don't agree with the character's actions or thoughts pattern. You get it, you feel for them, you want what's best for them. And that's why reading the last book in this series made me all sorts of emotional, I felt like I was saying goodbye to some close friends or family. But the beautiful epilogue almost made up for that.

Now, about this book.

Wow. What an emotional rollercoaster. This was the 5th, last and my very favorite book in the Adair Family series. I loved (lived) every second of it - even when I wanted to cry or scream at Brodan for his mean behavior. There's been a world of hurt between these two and it was all so heartbreaking, angry and profound, I honestly couldn't imagine how they would ever recover from it.

This is probably the couple we've all been most excited (and anxious) about. I read the last 3 books back to back and I was on the edge of my seat to get to the bottom of it. To see it out in the open and fixed. The tension, history and buildup hinted at one hell of a story. And was it.

Brodan and Monroe had it worse than Mac and Arro (book 3), which is saying something. They had been best friends since they were kids and just when they got old enough to have romantic feelings for each other, mistrust, personal issues and bad decisions forced them apart for over a decade. So when they have to come back home, there's years of unresolved issues, pent up frustration, hurt and questions, longing and despair surrounding them. And when all that finally exploded, it detonated like a mine. If internal bleeding from all those fresh and old wounds would have been possible, they'd be done for. It's all so devastating, for a second I couldn't see it work out.

But it's a big loving crazy family. A small town. Close proximity. A fun group of busy buddies and long time buried feelings, but good feelings nonetheless. Flawed, but charming characters with a heart of gold, who have been through a lot over the years, even when their mind and hearts were stuck somewhere in the past with the "what ifs". And step by step, they are put into situations that make them work together, chat, open up. Talk things through, spend time together. Get the ugly out in the open, reveal their feelings (from back then and now) and heal. Be honest and give in to their passion and love. Remember why they were each other's 'only one' person from the get go. Lots and lots of healing and groveling was necessary to get to a good place, which was heartwarming and actually fun to see. I melted every time they bantered and he called her by her childhood nickname. They really were fun and perfect together and seeing them work for the happily ever after they have dreamed about for like 3 decades was so wholesome!

Plus, there's the whole family invested (as usual lol), which added more giggles and "aww" moments.

And then. The epilogue. Ahhh! Pretty sure that was the best extended epilogue in existence.

"I have loved you every minute, every second of my life too. There has been no one else. Only you."

So, obviously, 5 stars for me. I'm glad there's a spin-off series already in the works and we met the characters from that one, so I can't wait to see their story unfold. Spending time in the Highlands with these brooding men and their strong ladies is too much fun!

January Favorite Books

 Hi everyone!

Time is already flying so fast, yesterday it was Christmas and today it's almost Valentine's Day. How??

Anyway, I got such a good start of the year, reading-wise. I read The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood on the first day of the year and it opened my appetite for Romance and RomCom books. I missed them and that feel good vibe!

So while I already read like 20 books so far, here's some of my favorites:

The only Fantasy book I loved:

- Song of Silver, Flame Like Night which I can tell already it's going to be one of this year's hits and on many favorite lists. Superb, the 2023 Daughter of the Moon Goddess!

Now, when it comes to Romance: Hands down, my most favorite is Twisted Lies. I HAVE NO WORDS and I'm still recovering.

The entire Twisted series is mind-blowing and has that quality to get under your skin. You may think it's not that big of a deal while you read, but then you close the last book and wonder what just happened, what is this life. It lives with you long after still. And Lies was the best one of them all. It will live in my heart forever.

Two Wrongs Make a Right by Chloe Liese and obviously, Ali Hazelwood's upcoming Love, Theoretically are perfection and must reads.(out Jun.13)

*don't ask me how I got an ARC of that one lol it's probably the first and last time I ever get a Berkley title, so I'll just say my prayers, count my blessings, squeal in delight and re-read until pub day. It's my favorite of hers and it will .blow .your.
mind. Adam has some serious competition. You are not ready. πŸ’–

I also read some pretty awesome ARCs and I'm so grateful for getting them, I'm aware I'm not one of the popular kids in the bookstagram/blog-world anymore, but after all these years, I still get excited and love to spread the word about upcoming books.

> Things I Wrote About by Kelsey Humphreys is one of the best second chance Romance books I have ever read (out Feb. 23)
> Planes, Trains, and All the Feels by Livy Hart - Grumy / Sunshine stuck on a roadtrip of sorts, with forced proximity and all the feels (out May 23)

Happy Vday everyone, I hope you have a lovely day and also get to read some steamy Romance books - I got you set if you read any of the books I mentioned. ;)

xoxo

First book review of 2023: Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

Hi everyone and Happy New Year!

I had to take December off as it's one of my most insane months at work and I barely had any time to read, let alone write reviews or any posts. But it's been a fun month and I read some amazing stories over the holidays, when I could finally catch a breath!

There is a full 2022 review on bookstagram though, where you can see all my favorite books that I recommend from 2022: HERE

And speaking of favorite reads of 2022, in December I was lucky to read Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries, which was one of the best reads of the year imo!

Here's the scoop:

Release date: January 10th 2023

Goodreads / Amazon / My Instagram / Playlist

Rating: 5 stars πŸ’«

Tropes:

✨️Fantasy Romance (light academia style)
✨️Fae lore and folklore
✨️Grumpy / Sunshine
✨️Cozy magical vibes
✨️"Are you hurt? I'll πŸ’€them"
✨️ Close proximity

A story filled with folklore, fae mythology and magic, adventure, subtle dry humor, character and relationship depth and growth and surprises at every turn.

Though I read it a few weeks ago, I still have the vibe and story imprinted on my brain. It has that cozy, cottage, read by the fire, rich fairy tale feeling.

Everything, from the daily mundane things, to the visits to the tavern, the locals, the folklore, the stories inside stories, the mystery of the bigger plot encompassing them all, the tentative relationships they formed, their chemistry, the questions, had me spellbound.

I liked Emily from the get-go. She charms from the very first page with her wit, intelligence, strength, courage, boldness and personal vulnerability. She takes us into a journey filled with mist, whispers of magic and fae lore and tells us her story with all the truth, mystery and discoveries as she meets them, in journal form. The moments when her thoughts got derailed and take a romantic turn - definitely not appropriate for an academic work, made me gasp and giggle and yell "finally! So I'm not the only one feeling the tension here!"

The slow burn (if we can even call that) is so subtle yet intense, delightful and fun its even more precious and rewarding. A nice grumpy sunshine in a storybook setting.

It's perfect. I need this to be a preface for any other fae book ever written out there. I need it in true encyclopedia format. I need all the special editions.

Overall, my take is: Outlander meets A discovery of Witches meets Once Upon a Broken Heart and I'm sticking with it. The perfect book to get cozy with at the end of these long winter days, for me it was like a balm for the soul. Easy 5 stars and a must read for everyone!

Memorable quotes:
*from the eARC, subject to change

"You are not so terrible, Em. You merely need friends who are dragons like you."

"I am an explorer, Wendell. I might call myself a scientist, but that is the heart of it. I wish to know the unknowable. To see what no mortal has seen. ... To peel back the carpeting of the world and tumble into the stars. "

Stories, after all, are so fundamental to their world; One cannot hope to understand the Folk without understanding their stories.

For a heartbeat, all the other moments we've shared faded away, leaving behind only the small handful of times we'd been close like this, connected somehow like a bright constellation.

Thank you to the publisher Random House/Del Rey and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this gem early.

Have a great week and a most amazing 2023!
